After years of being held by the Federal Bureau of Control, Dylan Faden finally gets out and finds himself in a completely messed-up Manhattan. The city is in the middle of a massive paranormal disaster, with reality itself being twisted by a mysterious cosmic force. Now Dylan has to use the strange powers he gained during his confinement to fight back against everything that’s taking over the city.
This is the sequel to the award-winning CONTROL, and this time the action moves beyond the Oldest House and into the streets of Manhattan. The city has been overrun by the Hiss, the dangerous Mold, strange microorganisms, and all kinds of other supernatural threats. While trying to survive, Dylan is also searching for his sister, Jesse Faden, who is still dealing with the disaster from inside the Oldest House.
Manhattan has several huge areas to explore, and none of them work quite like normal places. You’ll come across locations that mess with your perception, along with gravity anomalies that can completely change how you move through the environment. These strange effects can turn normal puzzles into something much more complicated while also giving you new ways to approach combat.
As Dylan gets deeper into the city, he’ll meet both familiar and new characters while trying to understand what’s actually happening. Memories from his past also become important as he learns more about the FBC, his own history as a test subject, and the terrifying forces threatening humanity.
Dylan’s powers can grow and change throughout the game, giving you plenty of freedom to shape how he handles different situations. There’s a deep progression system where you can develop his abilities and adapt to new threats. Along the way, the relationships Dylan builds will also play a big part in helping him hold on to his humanity while he slowly becomes something much more dangerous.
Combat is all about combining Dylan’s powers with the environment and his shapeshifting weapon, the Aberrant. This crazy weapon can change forms depending on what you need, letting Dylan smash enemies with a massive two-handed hammer or quickly switch to dual blades for faster attacks. You’ll have to keep changing your approach as the threats around you evolve.
The situation gets even worse because Jesse Faden’s lockdown is no longer enough to contain the disaster. The paranormal threat has escaped the Oldest House and spread into Manhattan, leaving the Bureau struggling to keep everything under control. Jesse once entered the Oldest House to face the danger inside, and now Dylan has to step outside and deal with the nightmare that has escaped into the world.
